This festival is celebrated in Ladakh. This festival is organized in the largest Buddhist monastery of Ladakh, Hemis Gompa. The famous Hemis Gompa is surrounded by mountain rocks from all sides.It is held for two days around the month of June or July, this festival is celebrated to honor him on the birthday of Guru Padmasambhava. Lord Padmasambhava is the founder of Tantric Budhism of Tibet.

Special art exhibitions and costumes, wearing masks are the main attractions of the Hemis festival. The best part of this festival is the dance performed by the Lama saints named Chams, who dance in the role of Rakshaso, Yamo, wearing masks (masks) with horns and at the same time playing the dhol and manjira to win over the evil of good Let's pretend. Many travelers gather to see this festival, it is believed that this will give them good luck, good health and strength. The dance performed by Chamo is part of the Tantric tradition. Why do people celebrate HEMIS festival 

Guru Padmasambhava is considered to be the second greatest guru after Lord Buddha. It is believed that Guru Padmasambhava conquered all evil powers with the help of Vajrayana Buddhism. In this way Guru Padmasambhava became important and his birthday was celebrated with great enthusiasm in the Buddhist community.
